About the Author
Terence P. Moran, Professor of Media Ecology in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication of New York University, is the co-editor of Language in America: A Report on Our Deteriorating Semantic Environment and the co-author of Selling War to America: From the Spanish American War to the Global War on Terror. He has received a Teaching Excellence Award from the Steinhardt School, a Louis Forsdale Award for Outstanding Educator in the Field of Media Ecology, and a special Founder of Media Ecology Award from the New York State Communication Association. In addition to writing numerous articles on language, culture, media, and communication, he was executive producer for two television documentaries, McSorley’s New York (New York Chapter 1987 Emmy Award) and Sons of Derry (1992), a report on the troubles in Northern Ireland.

I purchased this book from Seattle goodwill for $6.83. Its titled element encyclopedia of secret signs and symbols. It is hard cover and a very good deal. I thought I had already reviewed this book, I was mistaken. This is one of the first book I purchased on my new journey in life, and this book really opened my eyes. This book has everything in it from astrology to numerology, and in between. I already read it once I'm going to go through it again, because it is a reference keep forever book for me. It explains meaning of words, your name, your birth date, and so mush more. This book is easy for beginners to understand.

Disappointing read

The book does not live up to its title - most of its information is theoretical and uses examples not relative to the person who would read this book - i.e. smaller business owners. It is a scholarly overview of the process but for a do-able, step by step approach, I found it highly inferior to John Gross's "Fundamentals of Maintenance" - just because it is written in more difficult language does not make it a better book. Gross pointed out, and I agree, that people talk ABOUT preventative maintenance and the benefits for your company, but no one tells you how to actually set up a department or actual procedures. This is that type of a book - all research and very little actual, personal experience. Bypass this one.

About the Author

Henry David Thoreau was born in 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts. He spent time as a school teacher after attending Harvard College but was dismissed for his refusal to administer corporal punishment. In 1845, wanting to write his first book, he moved to Walden Pond and built his cabin on land owned by Ralph Waldo Emerson. It was during his time at Walden that Thoreau was imprisoned briefly for not paying taxes; this experience became the basis for his well-known essay "Civil Disobedience." He died of tuberculosis in 1862 at the age of 44.

But as it was, it contained the unmatched descriptions and fervent passion that is so evident in all of Thoreau's writings. I wouldn't recommend this work to anybody that isn't a follower of Thoreau, but for those of us that are, this writing about apples is a quick easy read that inspires you to take a stroll outside with an apple in your hand.

This book might not be for everyone. It was the first of Thoreau that I have read, and might seem a bit "plodding" to some readers. However, I find his exploration of wild apples, their origin, and how they spread across the country to be quite interesting. Also, his appraisal of the flavors of wild apples compared with our cultivated species reminded me that what we find in our groceries is often just not the same as the flavors of plants from the wild or from our own gardens. And enjoyable read for a winter's evening.

Exceptional Book on How to Watercolor

This is an exceptional book of graded lessons on how to watercolor. It is completely different from any other "how to" book on watercolors that I've seen, (which to me are mostly "show off" books). Crespo is genuinely dedicated to teaching students - while teaching technical skills, there is a wonderful sense of humanity, love for teaching, and awe of the mysterious essence of nature which shines through. Instead of having illustrations which show only master watercolors, (as many books do - a good way to discourage the beginning watercolorist right off the bat), most of the examples Crespo gives are of his own students' work, and only a few of his own. He points out what is wonderful about the students' work, (which is such a refreshing change from critiquing student work and pointing out in graphic and gorey detail what is wrong with it!) The lessons are carefully graded, building on what has already been learned. The assignments are stimulating and fun, with just enough challenge to not feel overwhelming.
I can't say enough good things about this book. As in all the best teaching, what shines forth in Crespo's is not only his knowledge of technique, but his love for the medium, his students, and life.

This book is great for beginners and for people who want to learn new techniques in watercolor. The author has excellent examples through out the book from students as well as skilled artists. He gives good advice and if you are new at watercolor and want to learn at your own pace without anyone rushing you this book is great.

This book will well serve both beginning students with a serious desire to master watercolor, and experienced artists who want to revitalize their painting. The book is arranged in a series of exercises that are fun, thought-provoking, and not at all difficult, even for complete beginners. The text for each lesson is well-written. Crespo compresses a lot of useful art theory into brief but very usable form. Although the author uses some of his own paintings as demonstrations,the majority of the illustrations show student work. The pictures are beautiful in their own right. They also offer great encouragement to beginners who may be intimidated by seeing too much technically perfect work in conventional art instruction books.
I have been working with watercolor for nearly thirty years, but I still learned something new from every page of this book!

In an age of such great advancements as walking on the moon and sending landers to Mars we are such barbarians when it comes to neoplastic conditions. In Lothar Hirneise's book "Chemotherapy Heals Cancer and the World is Flat", we are presented with a level headed and scientific view of Alopathic medicine and its counterpart Alternative medicine. We are educated on the fact that the alternative existed for hundreds of years without employing poison to cure and given abundant examples of existing treatments that are both available and affordable.

I was impressed by the authors detailed accounts when discussing first hand encounters with researchers from around the world that are finding ways to combat this terrorist. This book was translated from the German so it isn't always smooth reading -- but the theories and advice it contains can save your life! Hirneise challenges the Holy Grail of conventional cancer treatment (chemo/radiation/surgery) and brings us a crucial message: The cancer patient //must// take his health into his own hands and must not relinquish control to doctors. Cancer is not the fatal illness that society and the media make it out to be. Well worth the hefty price tag.

Poorly Written!

I don't know if it's because it was originally written in German and the translation sucks but this book is difficult to read!! It's very unfortunate because the message is of some value but it is so painfully difficult to extract from the material. I am amazed at the number of typos. If that were the only problem I wouldn't even be this rough as most books today have typos and other careless errors (must have to do with flouridated water and it's IQ lowering effects). There is better material on cancer to be had at online sites such as; healthwyze.org...ph & disease, or alkalizeforhealth.net, and many others. Better yet if you want to just prevent cancer, saturate your body with vitamin d (sunlight or 2-4,000 i.u.'s/day of D3), iodine...more than the USRDA as it nourishes all glands, selenium, transdermal magnesium, omega 3's from fish oils & flax, and stop eating crap!
