The book that makes a complex topic easy to understand

I own a lot of books on this topic.

A few I've never read because they don't draw me in and their look and feel is lethargic and boring.

This book draws you in...but even more important, makes a complicated topic easy to understand.

Andy's book is a piece of art. It's designed beautifully. It's well written and full of substance.

When I recommend books on this topic this is my first choice.

I own the iPad version as well as the physical book. I prefer the physical book.

I would highly recommend this book if you want to understand content marketing.

This book cuts through all the noise around content marketing - and gets straight to the key information we need. Every page in this book packs a punch. It is concise, neatly presented and hits home. It started out as a quick read - I finished it in a day - but quickly became a reference book I turned to over and over again, as I started working on implementing the techniques and strategies.

If I have one criticism of this book, it is that it misses an opportunity to go into further depth. Andy's writings on Orbit Media Studios's blog presents another level of material beyond what is in this book, and should be used as a companion to this book.

Often cited in the Chicago Tribune, and often found presenting at industry events, Andy Crestodina has been incredibly successful using the techniques in this book to build Chicago's top web design agency. It is astonishing that he is so incredibly transparent about how he has achieved this success, and proactively teaches it, through channels such as this book.

Andy Crestodina's Content Chemistry is an outstanding primer into how marketing content, web design, SEO, email and social combine to create effective marketing programs.

He is one of the emerging marketers that understands that marketing is becoming a technology-based and metric-driven profession, and this new book demonstrates how to apply the curiosity and precision of a scientist to the reader's own marketing efforts.

While many marketing authors and bloggers are focused on telling marketers what they should do. Crestodina is at his best when he demonstrates exactly why. For example, he doesn't just tell you that guest blogging is good--he shows by the numbers why it can generate 200% more impact. He doesn't just tell you that optimized registration pages help, he shows how his firm generated a 1441.67% increase in conversions.

And in this book, Crestodina goes beyond why --Content Chemistry also shows "how." His overview of how to write an article explains how the writer should use the concepts of researching keyphrases, choosing headlines and links, and its eventual promotion before, during and after the actual job of writing is performed.

Not What You May Think

For those who are looking for a guide to the poems, I would suggest David Ross' "Critical Companion...." which is far more informative when it comes to each poem, although he does not analyze every poem. Unterecker's work attempts to present overall themes that unify the diversity of masks that Yeats often assumes but too often waddles into biographical interpretation. For instance, a poem about the poet's spiritual struggle to create amid a chaotic world that makes so many demands it could spiritually kill you, evolves into a commentary on Yeats and the idealized female and the parallels of that real person to an Irish myth. Yeats often uses this motif, but it serves as an idea to think beyond the simple relationship of a man obsessed with a woman. This approach is interesting - and sometimes helpful- but, as one reviewer said, the text reads like a high school essay of sorts. Consequently, the title should not claim to be a guide but an overview of the works by a complex writer.

Disappointing.

I was hoping for a companion to read alongside the poetry, helping me understand Yeats' sometimes complex language and obscure imagery. Unfortunately, the Reader's Guide is a set of obscure essays on what Yeats may or may not have meant, with no connection to specific poems except that most of them are touched upon somewhere in the index. Nor does it make up for its lack of practical usefulness by being brilliant in itself; it reads like an overwrought book report.

I suppose it would be too much to hope that somebody would write a line-by-line translation into accessible modern American English, but that's what would help this American enjoy Yeats.

A Tour De Force

Lou Ferrante presents a compelling case for the existence of an unconscious human psi-based ‘radar’ system which exists to protect us during periods of sleep from the potential of external threats, or from awakening interruptions to our sleep, in this instance primarily for health reasons (good sleep is vital to our wellbeing). Ferrante artfully presents his theory in the form of a court case, submitting evidence which appears to substantiate his theory while ‘cross examining’ the stated opinion of other significant individuals who have doubted the existence of such psi faculties. To do so, Ferrante skilfully draws on personal testimony, while simultaneously incorporating facts from the relevant fields of neuroscience, psychotherapy, history and parapsychology, to lead the reader systematically to the culmination of his thesis. Cogent, lucid, liberally sprinkled with humour Lou Ferrante writes in a highly accessible way, on what might otherwise have become a dull dissertation in less adept hands. While uber-skeptics may doubt Ferrante’s conclusion, nevertheless, the science actually appears to be strongly on Ferrante’s side, and to prove this he cites various studies conducted in recent times which demonstrate (to all but the most pathologically biased skeptics) that psi abilities do appear to exist, to one degree or another in everyone and that the dream state Ferrante suggests is a place in which these faculties are arguably most noticeable, in most. In summary: this book is a tour de force, illuminating, thought-provoking and thoroughly referenced.

Once you’ve read this book you’ll feel like you understand both Ferrante the man, in the context of his personal evolution and his highly convincing theory.

Excellent & Thought Provoking

As I waited for the next book written by the charismatic Lou Ferrante, The Three Pound Crystal Ball: How the Dreaming Brain Can See the Future, was far from what I expected, yet it exceeded my expectations, was interesting and thought provoking. It’s amazing how this author is able to combine science, psychology, historical references and personal experience and make it palatable and appealing for all readers. The way he is able to shape his case for his theory on the dreaming brain while incorporating thoughts and opinions of great minds such as Freud and Einstein is truly amazing. If you have read any of his other great books, you know Mr. Ferrante is very witty and always finds a way to incorporate comic relief into even the most serious moments which is always refreshing.
This book was a mind opening experience for me. The depth of research and detail that was presented is a true testament to the dedication of the author. I would highly recommend this book along with all Mr. Ferrante’s books. His personal story is inspiring and I look forward to what is yet to come from this talented writer.

Great Read AND Author

Mr. Ferrante’s book is well worth the read. His writing on the subject of dreams and the human brain is undeniably insightful. His take on the relationship between Freud, his father, and Chancellor Bismarck is sheer brilliance. One would only speculate as to why anyone has not put these pieces together before. Mr. Ferrante’s mix of street smarts and intellectual facts are unsurpassed and should be recognized by the literary world as a work of art. There are but a handful of authors who can grab your attention from the first page of their book and keep you hanging on every word and Mr. Ferrante is in very special company as he has mastered this talent. I would recommend this book to all my friends and colleagues and hope that the right researcher reads this book and continues on the work so wonderfully done here. Kudos to the author and I will be looking for more of his works as they are available.

Written in the 70's, but still good

Although this book was written in the 1970's, and during several parts it's obvious (especially when he says, "it's the 70's..."), however the book still stands up fairly well today.
I've read 95% of Koontz's books and have been a huge fan for over 10 years. I tend to enjoy his earlier works more than his later, they're all good, but the earlier books are more of a "fun" read. They're not extremely long and they're really more pure horror. I love it, definitely a guilty pleasure.
Nigh Chills is about a scientist that has discovered a way to brainwash people, to open their minds using subliminal ads and then program them to do what you'd like. The concept is chilling. The story is interesting and you're kept on the edge of your seat most of the time. And the characters are enjoyable. If you're a fan of Koontz's earlier works, you'll enjoy this.

Startling and sometimes frightening

Night Chills is a look into the human mind and what drives it. The novel is about an intelligent man named Ogden Salsbury, a misogynist at the same time, who has developed a drug that, when ingested, will allow him to control a person's mind. With the help of multi-millionaire Leonard Dawson he dumps it into a town's water supply. With one simple phrase he can control whoever drank the water's mind.
I was surprised by this book. There are some extremely startling and disturbing scenes such as when Ogden controls a blond woman named Brenda and forces her to masturbate in front of him. There's also the fact that Koontz develops the villains in this novel more than the good guys. And while that was an intriguing aspect it also hurt the story. I felt like I wanted to root for Paul, the novel's "hero". You certainly want Salsbury to pay for all the people he hurt and killed but there wasn't enough characterization of Paul to actually like him.
There is certainly a lot of sexual material in this book concerning rape and will offend, possibly even repulse, many people. However, for those who can handle the material may find it a thought-provoking, albeit flawed, but still interesting novel about the human psyche.

Perhaps Koontz's edgiest book...

This one is not recommended for the faint of heart. Koontz doesn't hold back on telling what could happen when virtually godlike power falls into the wrong hands. Basically an exploration of how absolute power corrupts absolutely... and there's plenty of explicit corruption detailed herein. The book doesn't end on an "up" note either, like many of Koontz's others -- it's definitely a downer, albeit a highly entertaining one. Although it's one of my personal favorites (and thankfully doesn't involve the supernatural or aliens, a recurring Koontz theme), I'd recommend the typical Koontz fan go into this one knowing that all is most definitely *not* peaches and cream. The "good guys" do win, but the damage is done... and there's no easy-breezy escape via a "touched by an angel" golden dog. Not what I'd call light entertainment, but entertaining nonetheless.
